New photos from the Elwha River and Hurricane Ridge

On our third day in Olympic National Park, we visited the Elwha River. This is the site of a large scale ecological restoration project. Two dams along the river have been removed, allowing salmon to return to their headwaters deep in the rainforest! We then headed on a trail along the river that takes you through a dense rainforest. The size of the trees on this hike were unreal. After our hike we stopped at Madison Falls, an unbelievable waterfall located next to the river. We then headed back to Hurricane Ridge. We got lucky this time and saw Mountain Goats! We saw a female with her young kid, as well as a lone male. The kid made the sweetest little sounds when her mom would go too fast. It was an incredible encounter that I won't soon forget.

Enjoy!
